Lucky To Have
We moved here a year ago and the curriculum is a little more hard core than we’re used to. My 4th grader needed math and ELA help and my 6th grader needed help with ELA and organization skills. My 6th grader has an IEP and requires someone who is very patient and understanding of his disability. After speaking with Angela on the phone the first time, I was very comfortable with her and confident she was right for the task. We set up our first session for her to introduce herself to my children and the rest is history. I have only had one other experience with using a tutor in the past and I can say that Angela is in a league of her own. She makes the sessions fun and she works well with my children; they look forward to their sessions with her. My 6th grader has made some sessions for her challenging, but she never backed down nor gave up. She knows how to direct my son back to the task at hand with little resistance. Since we’ve hired Angela, my sons’ grades have improved immensely, they have a better grasp of the material, and my 6th grader is learning how to organize his binder better. Any family would be lucky to have Angela as their tutor.
Gifted
There are many “highly qualified” teachers and tutors in the DC Metro area. (I feel like I interviewed most of them prior to finding Angela!) Angela is not only incredibly highly qualified, she is GIFTED. Gifted in knowing a child not only academically, but more importantly, emotionally. Gifted in intuitively knowing what will motivate your child. Gifted in sensing the best means and methods by which to promote learning. Gifted in communicating with parents, teachers, and if need be, with school administrators. And, like a magical Mary Poppins, she makes the entire experience positive, engaging, and fun for your child. There are no words to express how next-level incredible Angela is! If you have a child who would benefit from one-on-one attention: do not hesitate! Call Angela ASAP. It will be a turning point in your family’s life and in your child’s academic experience. We’ve seen great strides in our son’s improvement in reading and writing while working with Angela and, importantly, in his confidence in himself and his abilities as a student. That in itself is priceless. We can not recommend her highly enough! We adore you Angela!!!
Happier Child
We are an expat family and English is my daughter’s second language. My daughter has caught up with the rest of her class thanks to Angela’s discipline, detailed oriented professional approach and compassion. Our daughter’s confidence has improved considerably, and she is a much happier child. This has affected our whole family in a positive way. Angela is part of our family now.
Invaluable To Any Parent
As a parent, I have turned to Angela for advice regarding my son’s reading. I had many concerns and she patiently listened to all of my worries. Angela not only eased my mind but she also helped me come up with strategies I can implement at home. Also, before any important teacher meetings, such as parent-teacher conferences or an IEP meeting, we would discuss the desired outcomes and goals for the meeting. During these planning sessions, she provided suggested questions I should ask and they were questions I would not have known or even thought to ask. As a result, every meeting has been productive and I always leave knowing that I was able to advocate for my child’s needs. Angela is an incredible asset and invaluable to any parent who needs counsel in all areas of education.
Commitment and Effectiveness
As a colleague, I witnessed first hand Angela’s commitment and effectiveness as a teacher. Her child-centric pedagogy focuses on assessing children where they are academically and socially and then guiding them to become engaged learners. Angela is a master at differentiating curriculum to meet the needs of her students. Angela’s vibrant and positive energy captivates students and she can make the most mundane task exciting to all learners. Her dedication to working with all types of learners, and their success, is inspiring!
Forever Grateful
My son was lucky enough to have Angela teach him how to read when he was in first grade. We had tried “everything” from nightly reading, practicing sight words, small group instruction at school, even ABC Mouse, but he wasn’t making the progress that we hoped for until he began working with Angela. Her fun yet no-nonsense approach was a great fit for him, and he looked forward to his sessions with her; it was never a struggle to get him to tutoring. After the first month of working with her, his reading scores had already improved. Now he is a second grader reading at grade level with no outside support, and I am forever grateful that Angela was able to help him over that hump.
